Hamilton Beach coffee makers are one of the most popular brewers on the market. They have taken over our households by storm and drip coffee has never been the same after that!
But let’s be honest; is Hamilton Beach 49976 model really that good? The price is acceptable, users rave about its features, but when we scratch the surface, 49976 brewer seems to be a real waste of money.
After thorough research, combined with my personal experience, I decided to share my Hamilton Beach FlexBrew review with you. Let’s talk about its pros and cons. Honestly and openly!
Back in the day, I used to brew my coffee almost daily with Hamilton Beach Flexbrew 2 way coffee maker. Those days are long gone and my coffee preferences have changed significantly since then. If you’ve been around for a while, then you’ll know I’m all about espresso machines, cold brew coffee, and pour-over coffee makers.
Still, I can’t say that the hamilton machine wasn’t a solid coffee maker to keep around. I have to say, I was thrilled when I finally got rid of it, but it managed to brew some respectable coffee.
Anyway, let’s have a closer look at the Hamilton brewer and discover whether it’s really worth the purchase.

Hamilton Beach FlexBrew 49976 Review
49976 Hamilton Beach model definitely packs some amazing features. If you’re looking for a 12 cup coffee maker that can also make single-serve coffee in one go, you may want to consider this brewer. But, there are some downsides to this coffeemaker and while it’s made to be super flexible, its flaws can’t be ignored.
But first, let’s have a look at the most important features and what is it that makes it such a special coffeemaker!
Most important features
Before going any further, let me say that the 49976 model comes with surprising features. If you’re looking for a well-performing coffee maker to brew a daily cup of joe, keep reading!
1. 2-way coffee brewing options
Hamilton 49976 brewer comes with 2 separate water reservoirs. It’s a 2 in 1 coffee maker that serves as a single-serve and a full 12-cup model. This is undeniably an amazing feature; its only downside is that you can’t make a 12-cup carafe and single-serve coffee cup at the same time.
Another feature that I and many other users really like, is that you can brew coffee with both; K-cups or ground coffee! The single-serve side can make 10 ounces of coffee with K-cup or 14 oz with ground coffee. The carafe side can make 12 cups of coffee, with a standard size of 5.5 ounces per cup. In any case, for best results use only cold (not hot) water when filling up the reservoir!
2. Choosing the brew strength
You can choose between two brewing strengths: a regular and bold type. While some of the users reported that they can’t actually tell the difference between these two strengths, this is still a handy and welcome feature to all who want to have some control over the type of their brew.
3. Programmable Timer
If you’re one of those people who love to wake up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee, this machine has got you covered. With an automated digital timer, you can set the brew time up to 24 hours in advance. The only downside is that the timer is only set for the carafe side and not for the single-serve side.
4. Auto pause and serve
Additionally, if you’re too impatient to wait for the brewing process to end, you can now pause and serve yourself a cup during the brewing process easily. This brewer promises no dripping while you remove the carafe to pour that first cup of coffee! But, return the carafe to its original position on the coffee maker to prevent any spilling or dripping within 20 seconds from when you first removed it.
5. Auto shut off
This coffee maker comes with an auto shut-off so you don’t have to stand next to it at all times when brewing coffee. What’s more, the machine keeps the carafe warm for two hours before turning off, but only on the carafe side not on the single-serve side.
6. Easy to use
This coffee machine is pretty straightforward to use. The button controls are located on the left side of the unit. Next to these controls, you can find illuminated display for the brewing status.
What’s more, brewing coffee in a carafe requires only three simple steps: placing a paper filter, filling it with coffee, and pushing the start button.

What online Hamilton Beach reviews 49976 are saying?
Now that you’ve read my experience with this coffee maker, let’s have a look at what the online users are saying, according to Amazon Hamilton Beach Flexbrew:
It’s easy to use and it brews a large pot of coffee quite quickly. But the water tank for the single-serve is too small! – James
The features are scarce; while it’s easy to operate, the difference between the brewing strength is minimal. Know the size of your coffee mug if using the single-serve side, as the machine brews all the water you put in. Still, it’s a good coffee maker for the price! – Mike
You can easily program the machine the night before to have a cup of fresh brew in the morning. The coffee is quite hot when it comes out, but both parts of the machine work very well. The height of the K-cup side has enough space for large travel mugs (but make sure to remove the bottom part before brewing). – Jen
While I have to pull the machine from under my kitchen cabinet to be able to fill it with water, the carafe side makes good coffee. Now, this brewer is quite large and it causes some space issues and brewing problems in our kitchen. Otherwise, I love the single-serve option, but it makes a weak coffee with bold brew strength. – Jill
This model 49976 weighs 6.73 lbs. Its dimensions are 11.4 x 12.2 x 13.7 inches. You need an additional 8 to 10” above the coffee maker to pour water and change the filters.

- Thermal carafe
The materials used are BPA-free plastic and stainless steel.
- Choose between carafe and single-serve
- Brew strength (bold option takes longer to brew)
- You can program the carafe but not the single-serve

Final Decision: Hamilton Beach Flex Brew coffee maker review
Let’s be honest; Hamilton Beach Flexbrew 2-way Coffee Maker is not the fastest coffee maker on the market but it brews a good cup of coffee on both sides of the brewer. The K-cup single-serve coffee is the hottest when it comes out, but the carafe coffee is also quite warm. Overall, this brewer is easy and straightforward to use, whether whether you’re brewing a single cup or a full pot.
I’d say that this machine is a cheaper option than the pricier K-cup machines. Keep in mind though, that Hamilton K-cup single-serve feature isn’t as effective as a real Keurig. If you’re looking specifically for a K-cup brewer, I’d recommend you to have a look into this regular Keurig; it comes at a similar price, but it’s a bestseller on Amazon, brews different pod sizes, and more. Anyhow, Hamilton allows you to place a large cup or a travel mug underneath it and it’ll brew a steaming cup of coffee in 2.5 minutes!
If you’re looking for a decent dual coffee maker for a normal price, look no further. I’ve given it 3 stars because it does what it promises. I love the single-serve brew basket, tall cup rest, and water windows. Still, there are certain flaws that make it not the best coffee maker ever, even though it holds pretty well for the price.
